A Tribute To My Mom: My Source of Inspiration

It's 11th September 2021; it's been two months since I lost my mom. Mom was hospitalized for almost 12 days, and there were times when we felt she would get better and would be discharged from the hospital.

I was very attached to my mom, as any son would be. I was confident of her recovery as I remembered the two instances when I had got her discharged. First, When I was 13 years old, my mom was hospitalized for surgery, and I stayed in the hospital for seven days and nights till she got discharged. The second time was ten years back when she was admitted for knee replacement surgery.

But this time, after 12 days of battle, it was a significant setback. This severe loss was irreparable beyond any extent.

The pain was even more severe as we lost mom just after 2.5 months of losing our dad, and in between for a month, my family in Mumbai had suffered from Covid. So it was a series of setbacks that drained us mentally and emotionally. I have never felt such a feeling of emptiness and loss ever before

"Mom had gone to be with dad" - these were my words to someone very close. Her entire world used to revolve around my dad; he used to pamper her with thorough attention and care. They used to talk for hours during the day. Even when dad was not home, they used to speak for 4-5 hours on the phone, sharing every detail about the day and whatnot. Such was their companionship.

They were true soulmates. My mom stood with my dad like a rock during his most challenging times. She always believed in my dad's abilities to bounce back. My dad was a risk-taker, and his career was a roller coaster ride. At one point, my mom gave away everything she had to support Dad's business. Dad's sudden demise left a big vacuum in her life for her.

My mom was highly organized and was very good at getting work done. She was my Path Provider during my childhood days. When I was in class 9, she told me that she wanted me to do an MBA from IIM like institute, which is another story that I will narrate sometime later.

She was very confident that I would do something good in life.

She was too good at boosting morale and motivating others. When I felt low, and mom was there with me, I gave me confidence. She never shouted, scolded, or raised hands on me during childhood; her eyes were enough to understand the signal. Since she was a postgraduate in Hindi and almost completed her Ph.D. in the subject, she fondly discussed Hindi Literature and Grammar. She introduced me to the great work done by Hindi poets and writers like Nirala, Bachchan Ji, Dinkar Ji, etc.

She was proud of me when I volunteered during the second wave of COVID and wrote "Jug Jug Jiyo Beta" on seeing a news article covering our work.

I wish to have spent more time with her after my dad left, but it was impossible to keep mom and dad apart for long.

I love you, mom, and I will be forever grateful to you for raising me the way you did. You taught me to never give up on my dreams but to persevere no matter how hard the storms may be.
