All individuals deserve respect, irrespective of being regarded as a good or a low performer.
I have witnessed an extraordinary quality after having worked with many great bosses. To draw a boundary between professional and personal relationships with the people they work with, they used to have personal regard for every individual in their team. That doesn't mean that they were not tasking at work or didn't reprimand negligence.
Each individual operates differently as per their skillsets, interests, experience, and circumstances, especially for the responsibility they are assigned.
Supervisors tend to take this personally and start developing a general dislike for low performers. It starts reflecting in their day-to-day, where they exhibit their emotional outbursts taunt or insult the team member they despise.
Resulting in the loss of trust, self-esteem, blames for favoritism, boss bashing, etc., by the team members and, in turn, affects the team's overall productivity & synergy.
I got the privilege to work with some great managers who knew professional and personal boundaries.
They used to task individuals at work but treated each member considerately during regular times.
